Why Not?

I wish I knew how many books I've read over the years. My guess is that I've read thousands (definitely thousands if all those Babysitters Club books count).

I was at my grandmother's house the other day and Grandma is a list keeper. She keeps notes about everything, including a list of books she's read. She said it's to avoid accidentally taking the same book out of the library twice. I know the feeling. You read the book jacket and think "oh this sounds nice. I bet I'd like this" only to get home (or worse, onto an hour long train ride) and realize after a few pages that "oh I DID like this murder mystery... and I remember everything about it now. Dammit." While some books (including anything by Jane Austen) are fun to reread, I have to admit I also read a lot of mediocre stuff just to entertain myself.

So what's the purpose of this blog? Great question. I haven't answered it myself just yet, but I know I love books and a lot of other people I know love books so maybe this giant list of what I've read and what I've thought about it might be interesting to someone (hi mom!). If not, at least I'll always be able to access my list of books on my iPhone. That list my 80-year old Grandma is carrying is getting a little long.
